{"id":1235,"date":"2026-07-28T20:45:37","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T00:45:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nittanyvalleyfsc.org\/?page_id=1235"},"modified":"2026-08-20T15:25:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T19:25:28","slug":"virtual-lesson-policy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/nittanyvalleyfsc.org\/?page_id=1235","title":{"rendered":"Virtual Lesson Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Purpose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nittany Valley Figure Skating Club (NVFSC) is permitting skaters to receive virtual lessons during Club ice sessions. We reserve the right to discontinue this option if we find that video lessons create an unsafe skating environment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conditions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For skaters younger than 18: According to SkateSafe\u00ae, lessons must be conducted without headphones\/earbuds in so that the interaction is \u201cobservable and interruptible\u201d by another adult. If a session is not \u201cobservable or interruptible\u201d, SkateSafe\u00ae requires a parent\/guardian\/additional coach\/monitor participate on the call. The parent is responsible for ensuring the lesson is \u201cobservable or interruptible\u201d. The coach should initiate the call, and it is recommended that coaches archive electronic communications for three years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All coaches must be approved prior to coaching. If a skater is interested in taking a lesson from a coach who does not currently have NVFSC approval, please have the coach email <a href=\"mailto:coachcompliance@nittanyvalleyfsc.org\">coachcompliance@nittanyvalleyfsc.org<\/a> for directions on how to become an approved coach.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skaters\/families are responsible for:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>reviewing the <a href=\"https:\/\/usfigureskating.org\/documents\/2025\/10\/6\/U.S._Figure_Skating_SkateSafe_Handbook_01012025.pdf\">SkateSafe\u00ae<\/a> guidelines for remote coaching (Sec. II, Part 3: Electronic Communications Policy)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>scheduling and compensating coaches<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>supplying and operating the requisite technology (the Club is not able to provide technical assistance)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-theme-palette-13-color\">letting the monitor know who the lesson is with before entering the ice<\/mark><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>placing colored posterboard behind their phone during lessons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skaters must remain aware of other skaters on the ice, and may be asked to relocate by monitors or on-ice coaches if needed. Please bring any concerns to the attention of the monitors should an issue arise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skaters and coaches may need to adjust lesson plans based on the number of other skaters on the ice.
